WorldStrides Program Leader Receives NCSS Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award
At WorldStrides, our network of traveling Program Leaders is comprised of teachers that go above and beyond for their students – and it’s always exciting when we get to see them honored for going the extra mile!
One such teacher and WorldStrides Program Leader was Ronald Hustvedt, Jr., of Salk Middle School in Elk River, Minnesota, who received one of the 2016 NCSS Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year awards.
WorldStrides was present at the annual NCSS Conference held in Washington, D.C., this past November, hosting the largest meeting of social studies educators in the United States. We were excited to meet up with Ron and celebrate his big reward!
Ron also took part in the NCSS Conference Sessions, including a panel where he joined other 2016 Teacher of the Year winners to discuss how they address Social Studies education in age appropriate ways and make a difference in the classroom. He also joined another panel that showcased Teacher Leaders sharing experiences about C3 and core literacy.
WorldStrides also took part in the conference sessions, with a special presentation led by WorldStrides Director of Curriculum and Academics, Dr. Wendy Amato. She explored simple, easy-to-implement strategies that support Common Core writing in the social studies standards and discussed how to leverage online educational tools to involve students in inquiry-based learning practices.
We’re grateful to be able to take part in educational dialogue and extremely grateful to work with such excellent teachers across the nation. Congratulations again to Ron on this great honor!
