SHANGHAI, China – WorldStrides is pleased to add summer and winter camps to its portfolio of educational options for young learners in China with the acquisition of a Shanghai-based team specializing in award-winning camps. The innovative program, established as Ivy League Camps in 2010, enables Chinese children ages 5-16 to experience a wide range of artistic, athletic, and leadership activities under the supervision of coaches and teachers who are graduates of top American universities. Campers choose from among over 20 “majors” including things like NASA Rocket Building, Mysteries of Science, and a broad variety of athletic and artistic activities.
The program’s network of alumni and its talented employees will be a first step in growing WorldStrides China. Chinese families who experienced these camps in Shanghai, Beijing, and Tianjin will now have access to the lifelong learning opportunities offered by WorldStrides around the globe, including a broad range of academic and extra-curricular programming on elite European and American university campuses and educational tours in the U.S, Europe, and elsewhere. WorldStrides is thrilled to welcome the team behind the programs to continue building on their camps’ successes and deepening WorldStrides’ relationships in the Chinese market.
“Chinese families are hungry for educational opportunities for students, and we believe the world is their classroom,” said Bob Gogel, CEO and President of WorldStrides. “For an organization with our breadth of programming, reaching students in the early days of their learning journey is a big win, and we believe students and families in China will reap the rewards.”
The camps programs will continue to be led by Peter Winn, a highly-regarded and experienced business leader in the education sector in China. Peter is the founder of Talent Academy, a diversified educational platform, was the founder and president of the EF English First’s Professional English division and a leading executive at EF China. He speaks Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese. Peter will also advance development of WorldStrides’ brand in the Chinese market and help to expand programming and grow student participation.
